[Milsurplus] Day / Night Issue Solved ( I read the manual, duh )

Dammit, "When in doubt, read the manual". So I pulled the manual for the Tornisterfunkgeraet k, 4500 - 6670 kHz, about 3 watts input,
manual D1033/5 from Jan. 1943. "Short mast antenna" = approx. 5-6 ft. with capacitive hat. Tall mast antenna = approx. 12 ft ?
"Reichweiten sind nachts geringer als bei Tage. Besonders der Tn-Verkehr waehrend der Nacht ist wegen des Einfallen benachbarter Raumwellen
nur auf geringere Entfernung moeglich"
= "Range is less by night than by day. Especially voice mode during night is due to incidence of adjacent radio waves possible only at
reduced distance".
So, increased general radio noise on low HF band at night creates difficulty. As I said, first time I have seen this caution. Interesting how much
they downrate the night range for short antenna. Sorry to waste a lot of page space on puzzling this issue which I could have solved just by
reading farther into the manual.

extract from manual :
Antennenform......................................................................................................................................................Day.....................................Night
....................................................................................................................................................................Telegraph.... Phone...................Telegraph.........Phone
a) Stabantenne mit kleinem Stern [ short mast with small capacitive star ]............[ approx. ]........25 km..........15 km......................12 km..............6 km
b) Erhoehte Stabantenne............... [ tall mast ] .......................................................................................30 km............20 km.....................15 km..............8 km
The manual also mentions a wire antenna with counterpoise, no range given with this, however. Also an "on-ground" wire antenna 40 meters long;
text says with this antenna, "One or two S-levels weaker signals than with the short mast antenna".
