The only TBX I have left is a TBX-8, which would definitely not have been
around at Peleliu. But all models of the TBX do AM (voice) also. I never
heard of anyone saying that Navajo was translated to the English alphabet
during the War so CW wouldn't have worked. The other radios commonly used by
the Code Talkers when off the beach and not talking to the support ships
offshore were the TBY and after about late 1944, the BC-1000. Both are voice
only.
