Yes, the Silent Service paid a heavy price during WW2.

The WW2 Submarine USS COD SS-224, the finest WW2 submarine anywhere in the world today, remains as both a Museum Ship and a Memorial to the 3900+ men who have given their lives to the Silent Service and remain on eternal patrol.
