There are people who will say the set was never in service overseas.
I believe it was.  And there are apocryphal stories about it being
favored by small landing parties because it was easier and lighter
to transport than the SCR-284.  Not “prove-able” but credible.

By far my favorite “Ground Pounder” set.
I have the set, the GN-44 with seat and cranks, 
cables, regulator box, microphone, key, original 
antenna and original counterpoise.  I lack the RX
battery cover and the canvas bags.  One of these days.
Have made a lot of contacts with this fine radio.

I have owned both 3022-NY-41 and 2586-PHILA-42 sets,
so it’s not just a manual order.
