In an ever expanding effort to pus forward into the past I have embraced the FR-38B/U (Military version of the HP-524) Frequency Counter Project. The first part was just finding a example. That done just started working over the holiday on getting it up and running and after disassembly and cleaning, doing all the necessary DC checks on something this old have the unit up and running. Checked all the regulated power supplies and they are all right where they are supposed to be with good clean DC and have the main time base running and generating 10.0 MHz and the time base dividers are all working generating the divided references that are available at the reference output, can reset the counting columns and see the heterodyne input converter work with its "Magic Eye" tube but am having issues getting the gate at the input of the counter to trigger. I know it's a long shot but anyone have a manual or can point to a PDF for this beast? Being this beast has over eighty tubes did not want to just shotgun and test all of them but will pull all the tubes in the trigger section and check them today. Also anyone have any recollection on how the "Display Time" controls works? It's a variable control that has a click detent at the top end that says "INF" and is located next to the manual counter reset that clears the column counters. Going to assume that allowed you to set the rate that the gate opened and in INF was holding the gate open all the time for counting events? But this is just a assumption on my part.
