[Milsurplus] OT: "End this auction now? "

I recently got my feet wet again in Ebay, sold a paper item, as a learning experience for running some ham gear thru there.
I was very surprised to get a "Would you end this auction right now for $-----  ? " message.  Of course I didn't reply; too dumb
a message to deign replying. I wonder why this lives on, and why  people fall for it. The item I had, sold for about twice the
"end early" offer. I have seen a pretty rare WW2 Japan radio  disappear suddenly off Ebay, no doubt due to the same
game. I had a rare headphone, imagine if you can a U.S. headphone selling for over $500, surprised the hell out of me too,
this was a few years back, and I got a "end early" offer on that too.  Real dumb.
