Jeff,

Fair Radio has RF-301 parts, and I think your best option if you can't find a carcass/parts unit with a good transformer, is to call them. I restored an RF-301 I got as a parts unit, with the TCXO and the receiver protection board missing, and the preselector/driver module all messed up and not functional. Fair Radio had the TCXO, and brand new, unused spare tuner modules. I managed to get the radio to work; so far the receiver section is working well. It still has some issues in transmit  so I got several spare boards the various subassemblies from Fair, which enables me to swap boards and compare. This will help me to localize the problem(s) to the culprit component(s). In transmit it works in CW mode but only without the ALC module, and I haven't tested it on SSB yet.

Good luck with the radio, I'd be interested to follow your progress with it.
