Well, maybe not. One guy reported thinking the bearings were being
ground up, disabled the generator excitation, and heard only windage and
a bit of bearing noise. I still think it's magnito-striction. I have
been in high-voltage dc to ac converter stations where the transformers
see lots of harmonics, and they scream too. The noise is like white
noise centered around 1600 cycles, nothing like a siren.
