Hey, the soundtrack is part of the authentic mil radio experience. Silencing a rotary inverter or dynamotor is akin to spraying a deodorizer in a mil radio to disguise the "eau de MFP".


Before Topaz and Linear Systems marketed transistorized 400 Hz inverters in the mid 60s, fishing boats all used rotary inverters to power APN 4 and APN 9 LORAN A sets. There was something very satisfying about hearing an MG 149 (or the rare 14 volt input PE 109) rotary inverter spool up. It was like having a turbine APU aboard sound wise.
