And maybe in the Pacific, too, at least for fighter and torpedo bomber?
I recall Donald R. Blaney ( SK ) telling me, "We hardly ever used HF....just for code practice in air, or for contact reports on long distance patrols. "
Right or wrong, he gave me his estimate of range for the ARB - ATC as 400 miles.

(Bruce is the one who told me 20 years ago that the SCR-522-A was incontestably the most used and most important radio set that ever flew in the ETO.
