Hi All,

I am researching EEIS (Enemy Equipment Investigative Service - WWII era)

Is there anyone on the list that does research in the National Archives at College Park MD?

Or has engaged a researcher? If so can you make a recommendation?

(I had good luck engaging a local researcher for the Pan Am archives at U of Miami last year)

Tnx and all the best,

brian

Dear Mr. Harrison:

This message is in reply to your recent inquiry to the National Archives concerning your interest in locating an Enemy Equipment Intelligence Service (EEIS) concerning a World War II era German radio transmitter (model number Lo40K39d). Your inquiry was forwarded to me for a response.

Among the Records of Headquarters, European Theater of Operations, United States Army (Record Group 498) are three series of records containing EEIS records. These record series are as follows: Signal Section; Technical Liaison Branch; Enemy Equipment Intelligence Service Division; Report Title Sheets, 1944-1945 (Entry UD-1163) (NAID 5898425); Signal Section; Technical Liaison Branch; Enemy Equipment Intelligence Service Division; Correspondence & Related Records Pertaining To Enemy Equip., Radio & Radar, 1943-45 (Entry UD-1164) (NAID 5898426); and Signal Section; Technical Liaison Branch; Enemy Equipment Intelligence Service Division; Correspondence, Reports & Related Records, 1944-1945 (Entry UD-1165) (NAID 5898434). You can access further descriptions of these series by accessing our online catalog (http://www.archives.gov/research/catalog/ <http://www.archives.gov/research/catalog/>). Simply enter the National Archives Identifier (NAID) for each of the series you wish to further explore. We regret that we cannot undertake the extensive research necessary to examine the records and identify the pertinent documents. Our staff can assist researchers with their work but cannot perform substantive research for them. We will be glad to make the records and relevant finding aids available for your examination in our research room at the National Archives in College Park, MD.

Should you choose to come to Washington to do research, our records and microfilm publications are available for consultation without charge in our research rooms. The National Archives at College Park (Archives II) is located at 8601 Adelphi Road, between Metzerott Road and University Boulevard/Greenbelt Road, just inside the Beltway between the New Hampshire Avenue and Route 1 Exits. If you do not have a research card, you must apply for one in the reception area. Textual Research Room (Room 2000) hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except legal holidays. Our consultation room hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except legal holidays. No appointment is necessary. Records are retrieved Monday through Friday for use in the Textual Research Room at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. There are no pulls on Saturday. We do not pull in advance. Prior to your visit, please consult our web site at http://www.archives.gov/dc-metro/college-park/ <http://www.archives.gov/dc-metro/college-park/>.

In the event that you are unable to visit our facility, you may wish to employ a professional researcher to carry out research on your behalf. The National Archives maintains a list of professional researchers on its website. The URL for this list is located here: http://www.archives.gov/research/hire-help/ <http://www.archives.gov/research/hire-help/>.

It is also possible that reports generated by the EEIS during the war may have migrated to files inherited by other agencies during the war or in the postwar period. As a result, it is possible that the report you seek could be found among records in several other record groups held at our facility in College Park, Maryland. These include (but are not necessarily limited to) the following: Records of the Office of the Chief Signal Officer (Record Group 111), Records of the War Department General and Special Staffs (Record Group 165), and the Records of the National Security Agency/Central Security Service (Record Group 457). Prior to visiting our facility, you may wish to undertake and “advanced search” in our online catalog (http://www.archives.gov/research/catalog/ <http://www.archives.gov/research/catalog/>) using each of the aforementioned record groups.
