John,
The RA-1(*) family of aircraft receivers is not British. It is made by Bendix in the US. The units marked with AM and a crown were used by the RAF and got the British Air Ministry label. They were also used on some Canadian aircraft and even saw limited use in the US. As Brian included the link to Mike Hantz's website. The documentation is there.
