The one I did was the older system but would assume yours has the same issue. I had to disassemble the entire assembly, clean and sparingly lubricate all the parts. The end result was after learning how to set the space between the plates a tuning system that was simple but smooth and had no backlash. From what I recall and this was some time ago it was more like the mechanism that's used on the Russian R-311 and the like and nothing like what I am use to on WW2 American sets.
A word about capacitors, the issue I had was not leakage but being open, that and the wire that flaked off and provided opportunity for shorts.
Are you going to disassemble the face and do anything about the paint? I have seen reprints of the tuning chart before but the biggest issue there may be the condition of the plastic cover.

Can one of you good gentlemen who has worked on an R1155 give me any pointers on reconditioning the Type 35 tuning drive? I've only "rocked" this one so far to determine it's not jammed, but I saw someone say it was a clutch drive. If so and cranked willy-nilly, it could be damaged.
