What dynamic are you using to qualify the BC-348 superior to the R-1155? The one place where i can say the BC-348 wins is that the quality of the capacitors and wire far exceed the stuff that was used in the R-1155 being i have done several BC-348 receivers and never had any issues with open capacitors and my experience with the R-1155 had all open capacitors with the exception of the tuning caps in the LO and IF cans.
But from an operational standpoint , weight and cost i think the R-1155 may be the winner.

Having taken a recent interest in Eddystone receivers, I found out the
screws used in many British rigs are BA, British Association. They are
metric, but the thread pitch and shape is different from the ISO metric
we usually see today. Replacements are available from places catering to
restoring British motorbikes. One source in the USA is at
"britishfasteners.com" I have an intact R-1155, and want to find a
T-1154 to go with it before I dig into restoring it. A fellow in England
has a nice pair, but wants 1000 pounds for the pair, and the shipping
would be 250 more. A pound is about $1.25. The dynamotors or "rotary
transformers" for the rigs are exceptionally difficult to find, as is
the AC power supply. However, the AC supply will work on 120 volts. The
transmitter is less powerful than the BC-375, especially on AM where it
is grid modulated. I think the BC-348 has an edge in performance over
the R-1155. I have not heard anything negative about the reliability if
the R-1155/T-1154, they are definately built with material conservation
in mind but seemed to stand up in combat well enough. I have downloaded
considerable information and manuals on these rigs and can share if you
can receive large emails.
