Hi Mike - Maybe because I am a ham/military guy I concentrated on photos of
that gear and passed over some of the piles of catalins, tombstones,
cathedrals, etc. Perhaps there were more hamfest-type items than usual at
Charlotte this year, but there were 20X-30X more "AWA" radios than hamfest
radios in the flea market. YHMV.
The auction definitely had more ham items than usual. Also one fellow was
auctioning his collection of German military radios. So that skewed the
auction contents - there have been some giant estates of "AWA" items at
auction in past years.
Whatever, it was a really fine event with knowledgeable folks in attendance
and lots of interesting gear for sale, on exhibit, and being auctioned. I
heard very nice compliments on the talks as well.
Next year, the biennial international crypto conference will be held at the
same time, with the opportunity to see extraordinarily rare equipment and
hear talks from world-class experts. Come on down....
