I'd have to look at the manual unless Mark can look at his and tell us if the xmtr supply is also set up for 120v DC. I don't think it is but have yet to get the xmtr on the air. I don't recall seeing a separate as outlet on the power supply that the R-96 would plug into.
I use the receiver occasionally and it is very nice.I have a isolation xfmr in the ac line for it.

A friend Gerry W6NIR (SK) had told me his brother who was in the Army was stationed out on the East Coast during the war and was on a 'Army' ship anchored off a port on that coast on what I think he said was Harbor control or protection. Not sure which it was or even if it was that. Anyway he had the T83 and R 96 on board ship that he used to communicate with.

My R-96 is the post war version with the much nicer dial ,IMO. I think it has a 1948/49 contract date and was made by Hallicrafters. The case on the R-96 is made to support and nest the T 83 onto the top of the rcvr cabinet

Is yours the T-240??..Maybe the re tagging had something to do with it being used by the Coast Guard. If yours is a T-240 is there a contract date on the nomenclature plate.

Can the transmitter operate from 120 volts DC? I had the receiver shown in the picture, and it was hot chassis AC/DC. If the transmitter was AC only, was there a transformer to provide isolated power for the receiver? When I bought the receiver, I was told it was used by the Coast Guard.

  Hi Mark

I thought it interesting that my T 83/SR WW2 xmtr was re tagged as the T 240.

I'm sure it's the same radio but wonder why it got a new designation.
