 I thought it interesting that my T 83/SR WW2 xmtr was re tagged 
as the T 240.
I'm sure it's the same radio but wonder why it got a new 
designation.

Likely similar to the AN/ARC-2 case.
RT-91 vs RT-298; The later radio gets a "face lift"
with some mods and new features, then gets a different
designation.
