My Dad was stationed at a small radar site. They had 2 logging recorders 
for recording air-
ground traffic. Which was ideal,  as they alternated days, and if 
something needed review,
the off line recorder was available.

In an inspection, it was determined that they were only authorized one, 
and were instructed
to dispose of the second one. Which they did, all properly documented. 
The extra recorder
went to the state CAP wing.

Sure enough, next inspection, it was demanded that the second recorder 
be produced and
turned in. Fortunately, the CAP knew where it went, so it was a matter 
of driving 300 miles,
getting it, repairing it, and then turning it in. Don't know what would 
have happened if the
recorder couldn't have been found. The supply officer (my Dad) would 
have probably been
on the hook for it.
