In general I agree, but there are exceptions.

When I was waking up my SCR-522, I needed a replacement 832. About 15
years ago, when bargains were still available on eBay, I bought a lot of
about a dozen NIB 832.

I went through 3 of those before I found one that was good.

Maybe that was why they were a bargain.

As regards the VT-191, doesn't it have an oddball filament voltage
requirement?
