Hmmm...after thinking about this for a bit, it seems to me that having the cathode/suppressor
and one side of the filament connected together shouldn't make any difference at all.
At this point, I'm with you: I would simply plug the 807s into the sockets in place of the 814s
and fire it up.
I'll bet it will work perfectly well.
He should probably make sure that the filament voltage to the sockets was 6.3 V and not 10
V though, although 10 V on an 807 filament probably wouldn't hurt it any... at least not for a
while, anyway...
