I have read a fair number of things about Stalingrad, from both Russ and German sources, and of course the East Front was pretty horrific. But i was still surprised at the violence described in this book, “Last Stand at
Khe Sanh.” I probably should not have been at all surprised after exposure to the movie “We We Soldiers”. I do not think i would have lasted very long under those conditions.
I have a cousin in Olympia WA who was at some kind of base that was overrun; he described shooting at NVA running toward and over and past his dugout. He also told me about suddenly coming face to face with an
NVA soldier in the jungle. Both were startled, shocked; the NVA was momentarily frozen and George had his rifle on safety and fumbled, and then George ducked and the other guy ran away.
Anyway i digress. I usually have been donating my non-keeper books to local causes, but Mike if you supply a mailing address, i’m done with the book and would be happy to mail it to you, N.C.

>I will need to find a copy of the book that Hue mentions. The records of the ground combat troops both USMC and USA and their close air support during the whole Viet Nam war bettered the records of the endlessly-praised "greatest generation" of WWII, yet received little recognition (or worse) from that "greatest" generation.
