[Milsurplus] GRC-9 dial slipping problem ?

Anyone heard of a failure mode for the GRC-9 receiver, which is tuning knob to tuning capacitor slipping, not working ?
If so - what causes this? Is there a reference text on how to correct this?
I have not taken down a GRC-9 receiver to see how the tuning system actually works. I do have an irrevocably modified
lone receiver here, and i'm thinking i should do a total mechanical take-down to look into this myself.
