Ø Why socks? He reasoned that was one piece of fashion apparel which doesn't go out of date over time.
Umm. Remember tube socks?!

You may want to check with your insurance company on their policies.
I had a co-worker who sold socks and kept the inventory in his basement. His insurance would not cover it unless it was stored on shelves or pallets at least 4 inches off the floor.
The guy grumbled but did mount the inventory on shelves. One day his sewer backed up. Articles stored on the floor were destroyed; fortunately his inventory was saved.
Since then I never store equipment or boxes on the floor; everything is on a pallet or on shelves.
Why socks? He reasoned that was one piece of fashion apparel which doesn't go out of date over time.
