[Milsurplus] [ARC5] 1625 and Key Clicks.

MY very first question is: "Are these REAL key-clicks, hearable on the air by a receiving
station at least 10 miles away, or are they simply "key-clicks" heard "locally", like in your own
receiver?"

"Local" key-clicks are caused by simple sparking at the key and are not transmitted on the
air.

REAL key-clicks are usually (but not always) caused by too abrupt rise and fall of the RF
wave-form, but can sometimes be caused by parasitics in the amplifier or driver.

In my experience, "key-click filters" seldom adequately "adjust" the rise and fall times of the
transmitted carrier, and they very often introduce or accentuate other problems, especially
chirp.
