[Milsurplus] RAK on HF

It occurred to me that when trying to use the aircraft TRF receivers RU and BC-229/429 on 80M AM, for
example, maybe one could use these receivers with their LF coil installed, and simple HF to LF converter.
The receiver would tune something like 200-400 kHz. The RU would then have 3 tuned circuits of LF
selectivity and the BC-229/429, four. This "might" make them more usable on 80M. I was thinking a
single MOSFET crystal controlled converter, with a double-tuned input circuit. This converter circuit
was used in the Kantronics 8040 QRP receiver and it's a circuit of simple beauty. It also occurred to me
that the same converter might be used to place 80m on the BC-654 or on the BC-474, move 40m down
to the 2.3 MHz end of the dial, where the bandspread is better. I don't think on 160, 80, 40 you absolutely
need an RF amp stage.
