[Milsurplus] Loop sets range ?

Anyone know what the rated, spec range of the SCR-131 ( BC-148 )  ( and SCR-161 ) loops sets was?
The manual only "sort of" says 5 miles+,  as 5 miles is the dividing point for defining the channel spacing.
Many years back, an Army vet told me they would attach a wire dipole antenna, via large clips, to the
loop antenna, to get additional range - i think i remember he said something like 35 miles.
