So far i have figures for the receiver weight of 22, 34, 41, and 44 lbs.
The 22 lbs. sounds realistic for the design spec weight. When you add that to the separate battery box with its vibrator supply and wetcell 2 volt
battery, which likely adds maybe another 15 lbs., you have one pretty good pack load for the carrier.
At 44 lbs plus the battery box you have a load that becomes unpleasant.
I have 2 of the receivers that suffer the "zink-pest" metal decay.
One has a coil turret with some of the sections expanded, so that the turret clearance is no longer there and the turret is jammed, cannot rotate.
The other radio has a more basic challenge. The front panel has expanded and now is jammed tight. I have tried every trick and found no way
to successfully remove the radio from its cabinet. A slight additional complication is that the metal of the front panel is also now kind of fragile.
You might think your usual front panel might bend if screwdriver crowbarred. Not this metal; it will instead crack, like it was dried clay.
I had a GN-45 hand cranked generator for the BC-654 radio. I was amazed when one of the protuberances, the hood for the power connector,
cracked into pieces just like the German pot metal.

There is still a lot of difference between zinc and potmetal which is essentially made from anything that with melt and pour together Or in my industry garbage metal we called it. Zinc was commonly used for Carbs. Potmetal for trim castings that were to be plated anyway. Potmetal in a German radio? Ich glaube nicht. Es ist nicht die deutsche weg!
