“ In my shop they take a trip to the belt sander for a little diameter reduction after they come out of the shell.  Makes re-assembly much easier, too.

That makes good sense to me. Otherwise, it’s kind of like going on a diet because your clothes don’t fit any more, and once they fit okay,
you go back to the same old ways.
Sanding down the perimeter occurred to me as necessary even before i learned about the baking process here.
