Heavy cardboard sheets can be gotten from furniture retailers.  I use it to line single thickness cardboard boxes to make a pseudo double box.  It is not that difficult to cut the cardboard sheet and bend it to make a U to line the box bottom and two sides, put in the item to be shipped plus the required padding and filler and then make another U to finish off the top and remaining two sides.Jim

Ken ( or anyone ) - I am going to be downsizing a lot in the next couple years. Much of this stuff as you know is heavy, large, or odd shaped, and yet vulnerable. 
So what did you do for substantial shipping boxes?
I used to be able to scrounge good ones from where i worked, but that source is over.

And yes, it's medical expenses that really teach one the value of things, isn't it? The price of some medical tests or medications compared to our dollars and 
cents dickering at hamfests, or an extra $200 or so for some more-in-demand radio, it all pales compared to ONE medical event or prescription.

My experience with eBay mimics yours, David. I too used it to feed my family during a particularly rough time here. I was given something like 5 tons (yes, tons) of mostly receivers by a previous employer when he died. That paid our family something like $10K when we needed it worst.
