Yes. There have been, and still are NTS traffic nets since at least 1948, and those have
continually improved. Now they include an extensive digital backup network using the latest
techniques, hardware and software.
Although the ARRL has ignored NTS for many years, assigning it the place of "benign
neglect", recently the entire structure has gotten shaken up due to machinations by some at
HQ, and a huge proportion of us NTS operators have now joined an alternate organization
named Radio Relay International.
I have been active in NTS for many years, and now in addition, RRI. I first became active in
NTS in the 1960s, and have never left it.
NTS/RRI nets meet several times a day, all year long.
Yes, there are "still" NTS nets...
Gee...
In fact, I took traffic, originated in California, for the eastern area last night on the Western
Area Net, and will hand that off to an eastern area rep today on 20 meters CW. I am a
member of the Transcontinental Corps, also now known as the InterArea Traffic Net.
Eventually, I'll be using the TCK-4 in this service. ;-)
I can hardly wait.
