Pete Peterson ( sk ) of Seattle was a Navy aircraft radioman right after WW2. He told me that he was on PBYs flown to the Philippines as donations to the Philippine Navy. Another Seattle area ( Bellevue, WA ) man, Jack Strayer, told me he saw the older gear still in PBYs post-war. It's hard to figure when and why gear was changed. Chet Wsner told me that when he flew E Coast to Caribbean patrol flights, their PBYs equipment was changed to BC-348, ART-13 in 1943. Why? Who knows.
I have a hard time believing radios were removed from aircraft before their return to the States. Ships were there for the heavy hauling.
