[Milsurplus] BC-9: Answer One Question, Get Another.

Thank you for redrawing the circuit Michael.
Let's see whether we can get a few things straight.

1. The BC-9 is a CW only set, right?
2. Keying is meant to cause the oscillator to shift downward by
connecting extra C at C6
3. This downshift is to create the beat note necessary for CW; ie the beat
is created by an
offset at the transmitting station, not the receiving

It seems to me that either:
a. The downshift is excessive
b. The downshift is to the correct frequency and the oscillator is running
too high on receive

I believe b is the more likely cause, because more components are in
circuit on receive,
several of these components being shorted by the key.
