I am taking you very seriously, Neil, and reading your
posts.  It does take me a while to respond at times
because a great many other things are happening
here besides radio.  Believe me, I appreciate
your and all other contributions to this debate.
It's likely I do occasionally mis-read something.
The back-and-forth flow of ideas and proposals-
whether or not this one or that is "correct-"
is what may lead us to a solution.

As far as I can tell, the meter is original.  It has the
radium-paint markings in the center of the scale.
Over the past tweny years, the radioactivity has
completely decayed away- first time I've ever seen
that happen.

Next time I have the rig connected- Today, I hope-
I will shunt the meter and see what happens to
the receive frequency.
