An organist refers to that kind of accent as chiff, it compels
the ear of the listener and improves clarity and articulation in a large
room. I can see how it could make copying the signal easier in a noisy
environment or at long distance when fading is serious.

This is all very familiar to me. The series field makes it a
compound generator, and if everything is right, the regulation is very
good. Do the transmitters have any sort of shunt resistor across the
series field, or taps in the series winding to adjust the amount of
series field effect?
