I can get 20W AM carrier out of mine when it's feeding the 20' whip it was designed for. I get extra range (such as it is) by running it thru my conventional antennas, but just need to crank the loading coil to zero turns and put a 350pF cap in series w/ the output. I run that to a 4:1 unun so it talks to 50 ohms. Loads up fine, I get 1.4 A on the RF meter when everything is tweaked. Years ago, back when we had propagation, I had a QSO w/a couple AM fellas, one in Southern CA, the other in ID, but that was a fluke. I usually just talk around the immediate area.

Thanks to Dave AB5S' trick w/zener diodes on the phone jack, I can actually use a headset w/o popping my eardrums on TX! Really nice not to hear those relays banging and the dyno humming.
