Before listing these on eBay I wanted to give subscribers here a heads up in case there is any interest. What I have is a complete & NOS Navy ABA-1 IFF system including the following:
CG-43AAG Transponder. (I believe I have 2 of these.)CG-23ABJ Pilot control box. (I believe I have 2 of these)CWD-21AAX Dynamotor-keyerBX-37 Box with complete set of coding cams (made by Vendo)Set of connectorsPair of antennasManual (GE)
If interested I am open to offers. All these pieces were purchased separately so I likely have over $300 in one complete set.
The history of the ABA-1 (I also have a complete Army version SCR-515) is very interesting. Developed by the NRL prior to Pearl Harbor as an Allied IFF system operating in the 400 MHz region, it was never deployed in the European theater as it was found out that the German Wurzburg search radar operated in the same frequency range. It was also too big for installation in British in British fighter planes. It did see use in the Pacific theater as Japanese radars only went up to the 200 Mhz range.
