[Milsurplus] Packing and styrofoam

If you don't like the blue board, use either the pink board or the white. The pink is less
dense than the blue, and the white is the least dense of all.
The only problem with the white stuff is that I have yet to find any that is thicker than 1" so
you have to use multiple layers.
I prefer at least 2" of any of it between a heavy item and the nearest cardboard box or, in my
case, the 3/4" plywood.
I also prefer the more dense stuff as the weight of the shipped item goes up.
One way I have used to check density is to step on a foot-sized piece of it, and see how far
my own weight sinks into it leaving a foot-print.
I get about 1/4" in the blue variety, about 1/2' in the pink, and completely crush a 1" thick
piece of the white.
(BTW, my weight leaves no impression whatever on wood. However, YMMV on this.) ;-)
As Mac mentioned, and like him, for lighter items, I prefer at least 3 layers of large-bubble
bubble-pack TIGHTLY wrapped completely around the item, then that "package" stuffed
tightly into a sturdy box.
Also, as Mac mentioned, if one uses styrofoam, one really should put the item in a
black-plastic garbage bag first, and as Brian mentioned no tape should ever touch any item
shipped.
