"AFAIK Fed Ex Gnd will not deliver to a residential address. That is the
job of Fed Ex Home."

No.

FedEx "Home", is just a cheaper method of ground, for the household that
may not ship much, or large items and don't want to pay the large
freight, or commercial rates.

All the info is on their site, but I send and receive regularly, so in a
nutshell...

Ground, and Home, are the same, they go to a physical address. That
physical address, may or may not also be a postal address, so there is
also Smart Post, to go to a PO Box if you choose. If you are part of
the postal services "alternate addressing" program (through a contract
with them), you can also have ground, or home freight sent to the PO by
using their physical address, at which point they will re-route it to
your box, which no other service is allowed to use.

The rule of thumb is, any service with the word "post" (UPS, or FedEx),
goes to a "post"al address, whether it's a box, or a physical.

The rest are just ground, aka freight, and go to a physical, whether
it's a loading dock, or a front porch.

The real nice thing about ground is that you don't even need an address,
just a time and location, for example, an intersection of two dirt
roads, in the hills, thirty miles from town, at 3 PM on a Tuesday. I've
done that a couple of times as well.
