Joe,

NDB's are the main attraction.  http://www.dxinfocentre.com/ndb.htm

You'll be amazed by what you'll hear on a cold winter night.

You can also take a listen for the Navy VLF stations.  NAA on 24 KHz is 
alway loud in these parts.  (New Jersey)  It MSK, so you just get a lump 
of white noise, and you can only ID by knowing the freq. you're tuned to.

I second the suggestion to get the ballast tube out of the power supply.
