I cleaned off my bench, and opened up a few MITES I have accumulated. I
finally got hold of a TGC-14V in the portable fiberglass case, and
discovered it has some serious problems. There are several parts
missing from the typing unit, and it is very different from the others I
have. Has anyone seen a MITE with a stainless steel chain instead of the
fiber tape on the moving pulleys in the selector portion of the typing
unit? Also, the ribbon feed is very elaborate with a gear drive from
the main shaft and roller guides for the ribbon instead of the simpler
one with wire loop guides. Finally, the paper tension rollers are
released for loading the paper by moving a lever sideways instead of the
latching push button. Does anyone have one of these in restorable
condition, meaning complete but dirty and/or rusty?
