With the vast number of manuals and books I have around here, plus electronics of every vintage and provenance, it absolutely
seemed something I should have armed and ready around here. Insurance works. ( I got a 150 mile tow late Thurs nite a week ago
and having road insurance definitely made that fun experience a notch less stressful. )
Also having read about a couple horrendous car crashes and care fire deaths, I thought, I should carry one in my van just in case;
I'd hate to be a helpless bystander.
Thanks to Dave for bringing up the necessity of some training, available online, and that it does not work well to get one's training
at the time of dire crises. And to Kurt for suggesting Halon extinguishers for the vehicle because the vehicle vibration cakes the powder
in the powder spray kind and makes it solidify into a solid useless slug trapped in the extinguisher. Both tips worthwhile to be in the
life-saving category.
Anecdote: I once smelled a strong and getting stronger burning-electronics smell in my residence and couldn't locate where it was
coming from. I was racing around and moving stuff and about as close to panic anxiety as I have ever been; I thought if I can't find it,
maybe it's inside the walls? Finally after some minutes I determined what had happened, was a radio AND a CFL bulb both had failed,
burned up, at the same instant, in different locations in my residence. What's the chance of that happening?
