Anyone who would build up a block and tackle system to move radios is definitely "Hard Core" in my book. In this world of people using stamp sized SDR receivers and ever decreasing size and power transceivers you Da Man!

In the last house had a workshop built directly over the two car garage. What seemed like a good idea at the time soon became a problem. Everything had to be brought thru the house, up the stairs and into the workshop.

I had attempted to address that situation. My shack is also above the 2 car garage. But instead of humping stuff through the house, I built a yardarm with a block and tackle to get the stuff through a barn-door-looking opening.

Worked REALLY well! But to the whole point of this thread, fast forward a few years later and that barn-door-thingy is blocked with shelves and cabinets! I did make the shelves and cabinets all removable. But the reality of moving all of that stuff to use the barn doors makes humping new heavy things through the house look more desirable!

Ultimately, "radios and electronics are just like gases. They expand to fill their container" (aka the Hertz Postulate (tm) )
