  Adding the lights under the test equipment shelf is very good, I did 
that when I gave my bench a makeover a few years ago, and it makes 
working on something much easier.  I was inspired to mount them that way 
after a visitor told me it was done that way on the production lines at 
General Electric here in Syracuse. The work surfaces were covered with  
medium green naval linoleum, it was gentle on eyes for extended times 
and dropped parts or tools  were very easy to see and find.  The floors 
were painted either light grey or green to make finding dropped items 
easy to find and encourage keeping it clean. Walls near work areas where 
repetitive or intense tasks were done were painted salmon pink, a glance 
at it refreshed eyesight and had a calming effect.
