[Milsurplus] SCR-131 prewar radio?/ ws this used in battle any or just training ww2?

I thought I'd mention that the Army also had a non-loop version of the basic radio.
It was the BC-156. There was a third one, with a different freq range, but without
consulting my manuals I don't recall if this third one was a loop model or not. No –
wait – it WAS a loop model, because it's covered in the same manual as the SCR-131.

The non-loop BC-156 just uses a standard LC circuit for the #10 tube transmitter.
The antenna is tapped right off the coil. So, until you find the actual antenna, which
will occur "never", or fabricate one yourself, you could incorporate a tuned circuit,
IF you wish to operate the set. ( But I gather, you will not be operating the set. )

I presume the BC-156 was intended for longer range work. The one vet told me that
clipping a dipole antenna on the BC-148 / SCR-131 loop antenna gave something like
15 miles range.  ( Maybe he said 35 miles, but I will go with 15, and until I find any
notes I made, I will stay with the 15 figure. )
