[Milsurplus] Receiver - Transmitter 1498 ?

Found a metal spare parts chest, about  12 x 8 x 20 inches, heavy gauge metal, nothing inside.
Stencil labeled "Spare Parts Receiver - Transmitter 1498"
Box has painted stencils indicating it was shipped from Remler Co. , San Fran Ca., to a Seattle
area electronics store, a surplus store if I'm not mistaken.
So - anyone know what the "Receiver - Transmitter type 1498" is ?
I didn't know Remler made anything RF. They did make announcing equipment ( PA audio systems )
for ships of all classes, and "talker" sound powered phones.
