[Milsurplus] ARB parts

While we're on the ARB, let me ask: how does using the tuning head ( coffeegrinder ) compare with using the 90 elbow and local knob ?
I know the freq indicating dial is really small in the receiver and I'm not sure it is even lighted.
Is there backlash with the grinder ? I think I asked the latter part of this question before but don't recall the responses.
I still toy with the idea of putting the ARB + ATB set together. One of many project decisions before me.
