[Milsurplus] GRC-9 unpleasant surprise

So I finally after some years unpacked a GRC-9 that I'd bought from Murphy surplus when I was living in Seattle.
The case was very nice.
I opened it and - front panel, nice; grills missing but oh well, I can deal with that; there's an Epay seller of receiver
grills, and I have an intact complete spare transmitter.
Then I tried the bandswitch, to see whether the dial markings are the "big" or "little" numerics.
Surprise! The knob rotated 360. I pulled the knob out. It was still attached to a piece of the bandswitch. The
bandswitch apparently snapped ! How does this happen ???
"Owooooo"  ( sound of howling at the moon. )
