[Milsurplus] GRC-9 receiver questions

Having only one GRC-9 on hand to examine, and not quite remembering the last GRC-9 receiver i played with before i sold it, i ask this question:
Looking at the receiver, with the tube cover popped off, i can see the dial lamp is positioned too far to my right to really hit the dial view opening.
There is an IF can directly in back of the lamp socket. In this example, the lamp socket would align against the inside right edge of the IF can.
It looks to me like the lamp, to project thru the dial window, should be positioned so it is inside the left edge of the IF can. I don't think i want
to screwdriver try to move the lamp socket, for fear of breaking the socket off its support limb. I think i'm going to have to remove the front
panel to be able to carefully reposition the lamp socket. So be it. Meanwhile, another problem: the tuning is VERY hard. No, the brake is not
dragging. It's more like a lube problem, dried lube. So where should i look to find the problem? I had resigned myself to removing the front panel
anyway, to have access to the gears. I need to locate the hang-up point and clean it out with mineral spirits or lighter fluid. As this is a low-speed
mechanism, where should i lube it, and with what?
The bias battery shows signs of leakage altho the plastic is intact. I am thinking for now, while i address the other problems, i will just remove it
and sub a high resistance across the terminals for now. The bias will not be zero; the bias will be ½ x 1.5 volts, reckoning to the center point of the
3V4 filament. And as Tim, N6CC published, even with "zero bias" the plate current is still very very low.
