[Milsurplus] AN/APR-4Y receiver MF wanted

There is a world of difference between the APR-4 and the 4Y, first off the Y has an FM mode, second the Y uses the first generation of seven and nine pin tubes and last but not least the Y was intended to be used with the CV-253/ALR multiband head that unlike the junk that was built for the APR-1 and 4 actually works! Let me rephrase that as the signal band heads left a lot to be desired in terms of sensitivity but the multiband head had less loss and lower noise so it worked much better.
I have a 4Y that I am not doing anything with but back when I got it had to convert it back to as near the correct military version as possible and liked the design and layout of the receiver being the construction of the IF was a lot like the old tube televisions of the early fifties, the sweep tuning for getting a flat bandwidth was just about the same as would be used when working on TV IF systems. Too bad there is no analog TV today because with the flat bandwidth, envelope detector and video output it would have been fun to use with analog television.

Jeff- what is the difference between apr-4 and apr-4y?
We have a ECM display here at SMECC Museum
of Jammers and Receivers.
( and yea always looking for more too and all the manuals etc)

for the APR-4 you can use all the single plus ins or there is a
wonder plug in of later vintage what is MULTI-BAND ( many of these were made
quite late compared to the old single band plug ins.

I have found all the plugins to interchange between the APR-1 and APR4

Hello All!

Been looking for an AN/APR-4Y receiver mainframe to complete a setup. Anyone have one they are tired of?

Also still looking for WWII jammer stuff, have a lot of it, but you might have a better one for my collection. Working on getting permanent space here at the college for a small museum of WWII Electrotechnology.

Thanks & 73
