[Milsurplus] AN/PRR-4 Surveillance Rcvr??

  My friend has this radio and would like to know what its purpose was.

It's housed in a regular looking suitcase of the time and covers 350mcs - 12 ghz with a tape recorder.

I didn't see anything where an antenna would go . I'm guessing it was used for surveillance.

Minimal controls for the receiver.

The data plate has the following:

Signal Corps U.S. Army  
AN/PRR-4 Radio Receiving Set
s/n 9   Order No. 13600-P-53
Polarad Electronics Corp
